What prescription products work for Bacterial Vaginosis (BV)?

Typically, a medical professional will prescribe you an oral or vaginal antibiotic such as metronidazole, or vaginal Clindamycin. Though antibiotics are intended to kill the bad bacteria, they may not get rid of the bacterial imbalance altogether. Because of this, recurring BV is common. If you want to prevent BV after treatment, our medical providers recommend using [Boric Acid Suppositories](/products/boric-acid) after you've completed antibiotic treatment.

While bacterial vaginosis symptoms resulting from chronic BV and recurrent BV both require prescription medication to treat, the good news is you can easily cure BV at home. If over the counter BV cures aren't working, it's very likely that your BV symptoms require prescription-strength BV antibiotics, such as [Metronidazole](/products/metronidazole) (Flagyl). BV symptoms should begin to lessen after a few days, but it is important to take the full course of antibiotics to ensure the BV infection is completely removed from the body.
