How Does The Morning After Pill Work?
Levonorgestrel, a generic form of the active ingredient in Plan B®, is a pill taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex to prevent an un-planned pregnancy. The active ingredient is a hormone called levonorgestrel, which works by preventing pregnancy before it begins.
The active ingredient in Ella is Ulipristal, which prevents pregnancy by delaying or stopping the release of an egg from an ovary.
Neither of these medications terminates an existing pregnancy and is not the same thing as the abortion pill.
